Position Summary
Our Veterinary Technician Internship Program offers recent veterinary nursing graduates the opportunity to develop their clinical and technical skills in a busy specialist and emergency hospital environment. This structured training role provides hands-on experience, close mentorship and exposure to a wide variety of medical, surgical, emergency and critical care cases.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside specialist veterinarians, emergency clinicians and experienced veterinary nurses, developing confidence in patient care, nursing techniques, anaesthesia, emergency nursing and hospital case management within a supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality nursing care to hospitalised and emergency patients under the guidance of senior veterinary nurses and clinicians.

Assist with patient admissions, assessments and ongoing monitoring throughout hospitalisation.

Perform routine nursing procedures including blood collection, intravenous catheter placement, sample processing and patient restraint.

Assist with diagnostic imaging, laboratory procedures and preparation of patients for diagnostic investigations.

Assist with anaesthesia, analgesia and perioperative nursing care, including patient monitoring and recovery.

Participate in emergency and critical care nursing, responding effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Maintain accurate and timely patient records, treatment sheets and nursing notes.

Prepare, maintain and manage hospital equipment, consumables and clinical areas to the highest standards.

Participate in ward rounds, case discussions and structured teaching sessions.

Communicate professionally with clinicians, fellow nurses and clients under guidance.

Develop clinical judgement, technical nursing skills and professional confidence through structured mentoring and regular feedback.

Adhere to hospital protocols, infection control standards and professional nursing requirements at all times.
About You

Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing, or equivalent degree qualification, completed or due for completion prior to commencing the internship.

Recently graduated or early in your veterinary nursing/technician career.

A strong interest in specialist, emergency or referral veterinary nursing.

Eagerness to learn, develop your technical and clinical nursing skills, and embrace constructive feedback.
