Veterinary Specialist Services is an established Small Animal referral practice in South East Queensland. We have hospitals at Carrara, Jindalee, and Underwood. We are striving to create an environment where people can do their best work. Our teams are very passionate about delivering patient care and support each other to do it. We have a very diverse skill set and can offer just about all specialities, diagnostic modalities, and therapies across our practice group. We have residency training programs for vets, in house training programs for nurses and internships where many of our interns have progressed to become registered Specialists. We are involved in the industry with wide participation in professional groups, universities, continuing education courses and we run our own annual conference.
We are offering 12-month, full-time Internal Medicine Internships commencing in January 2027, with positions available at our Underwood and Jindalee hospitals.
This structured training position is designed to help successful interns further their careers in general practice, advanced veterinary practice or specialist small animal medicine.
You will work under the guidance of our internal medicine specialists and alongside residents, veterinarians and highly skilled nursing teams. Both our Underwood and Jindalee hospitals have Small Animal Internal Medicine residency training programs, providing valuable exposure to the specialist training pathway.
Our Internal Medicine team works collaboratively with specialists across a range of disciplines. With a large and growing caseload, interns will gain exposure to varied and complex medical cases within a supportive, multidisciplinary referral environment.
Your responsibilities and learning opportunities will include:
- Supporting the assessment, investigation and management of internal medicine patients
- Assisting with the ongoing care of hospitalised patients, including some overnight and weekend shifts where applicable
- Developing diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills
- Communicating with clients and referring veterinary practices
- Maintaining accurate and comprehensive clinical records
- Working collaboratively with specialists, residents, veterinarians, nurses and rotating interns
- Participating in clinical rounds, journal clubs and educational seminars
- Contributing positively to the daily operation of the Internal Medicine service
